In 2002, CPLA was retained to collaborate with the City of Redding to design the conversion of this riverside site into a public park with a connection to the Sacramento River Trail. The majority of the site is floodplain for the Sacramento River, bordering the site, with cottonwood dominating the area near the river, and large native oaks on the bench above where stone walls of a early 1900's structure still stand. Work included layout plans for the pedestrian and bicycle paths, picnic areas, and bench sites, irrigation and planting design and plans for the control of invasive plant species. Additional responsibilities included close coordination with City staff, Fish & Game, the project civil engineer, and the general contractor, to ensure the improvements took best advantage of the natural features of the site with only minimal impacts.
